Hyderabad: CPI National leader K. Narayana termed the Comrade Nallakannu’s demise an irreparable loss to the party and Tamil Nadu after the veteran freedom fighter died in Chennai on Tuesday.
Senior Communist Party of India leader R. Nallakannu passed away at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai. He was 101. Party sources confirmed that he breathed his last while undergoing treatment.
Reacting to Comrade Nallakannu’s demise, Narayana said the entire party stood united in grief. “Born in 1925, Nallakannu addressed the British Army during the freedom struggle. Inspired by Marx and Lenin, he later joined the Communist Party and fought tirelessly against class and caste discrimination. Comrade Nallakannu breathed his last today,” he said.
He added that people of Tamil Nadu regarded Nallakannu as a Gandhian figure. According to Narayana, many supporters were struggling to accept the veteran leader’s passing.
Leaders recall legacy after Comrade Nallakannu’s demise
CPI MLC Nellikanti Satyam also condoled the death and described it as a huge loss for the oppressed sections of society. He said Nallakannu led a simple and principled life. Moreover, he urged the present generation of communists to draw inspiration from his ideals and public service.
Satyam conveyed his condolences to the CPI Tamil Nadu committee and the bereaved family members. Party leaders across states paid tributes and remembered his long association with grassroots movements and social justice causes.
