Hyderabad: Cold wave conditions intensified across Telangana as night temperatures dropped sharply. As a result, the weather department issued an orange alert for 13 districts over the next two days.
According to officials, minimum temperatures were likely to fall below 10 degrees Celsius in the alerted districts. On Sunday, the department issued an orange alert for Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Mancherial and Kamareddy districts. Consequently, these regions faced severe cold during the night and early morning hours.
Meanwhile, Adilabad recorded the lowest temperature in the state on Saturday at 7 degrees Celsius. Officials said the reading reflected the spread of the cold wave across northern Telangana. Moreover, they said similar cold conditions could persist until Monday.
Cold wave triggers colder nights in Hyderabad
In Hyderabad, the minimum temperature was expected to dip to around 12 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the department said night temperatures could remain nearly three degrees below normal levels.
Therefore, authorities advised residents to remain cautious during late-night and early-morning hours. They also urged people to take special care of children and older persons due to increased health risks during prolonged cold exposure.
As the cold wave continued, outdoor movement declined across several districts. Consequently, many residents avoided stepping out after sunset as temperatures dropped rapidly.
Meanwhile, weather observer Balaji, popularly known as the Telangana Weatherman, said the cold wave was likely to ease after December 31. However, he said January could witness normal winter conditions. He also noted a possibility of rainfall during the fourth week of the month.
