CM Revanth Reddy seeks more IPS officers for Telangana

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy requested the Centre to allocate more IPS officers to Telangana in view of increasing administrative and policing needs in the state.

He made the request during a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Chief Minister attended the meeting along with senior police officials and discussed several law and order issues.

Revanth Reddy said the growing demands of policing, particularly in the rapidly expanding Hyderabad city, required additional senior officers. He urged the Centre to increase the sanctioned strength of IPS officers in the state.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the first cadre review for Telangana took place in 2016 after the formation of the state.

He said the next cadre review, scheduled in 2021, was delayed and eventually conducted only in 2025. Even then, the Centre allocated only seven additional officers to Telangana.

At present, the state has only 83 IPS officers. Revanth Reddy requested the Union government to increase the number to 105 to meet administrative and policing requirements.

He also informed Amit Shah about the recent reorganisation of police commissionerates in the Hyderabad region. The government created a new Future City Commissionerate after restructuring the existing three commissionerates.

The Chief Minister explained the steps taken by the Telangana government to maintain law and order in the state. He highlighted the activities of the Eagle Force formed to control drug trafficking.

Revanth Reddy also spoke about the role of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau in tackling cybercrimes.

The meeting also discussed Maoist leaders who recently joined the mainstream and those who remain underground. Both leaders reviewed the surrender and rehabilitation policies.

The Chief Minister said that 591 Maoists had laid down arms and joined mainstream society in the past two years.

He described the growing number of Maoist leaders choosing normal life as a positive development. The state government, he said, was providing several rehabilitation facilities to them.

Revanth Reddy also requested the Centre to support development works in backward regions of the state.

Chief Secretary Sheshadri, DGP Shivadhar Reddy, Intelligence Chief Vijay Kumar and SIB IG Sumathi attended the meeting.
