HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to persist with rescue operations following the collapse of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel. He has directed Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to appoint a senior IAS officer to oversee the continuous rescue efforts.
In a high-level review meeting with cabinet colleagues and senior officials, the Chief Minister evaluated the progress of the ongoing rescue operations. Officials provided comprehensive updates on the measures undertaken thus far. Emphasizing the need for a coordinated approach, Revanth Reddy instructed that expert committee recommendations be followed while securing necessary permissions from the central government to advance the rescue operations.
The meeting was attended by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Jupally Krishna Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and senior officials from various departments involved in the rescue efforts.
The SLBC tunnel collapse occurred on February 22, 2025, trapping eight workers inside. Despite extensive rescue operations involving multiple agencies, including the Indian Army and Navy, the workers remained untraced for over a month. Recent reports indicate that the bodies of the trapped workers have been recovered, bringing a tragic end to the prolonged rescue efforts.
The state government has expressed its commitment to supporting the families of the victims and ensuring that such incidents are prevented in the future through stringent safety measures.
