CM distributes ₹5 lakh ex-gratia to Madina bus tragedy victims

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy distributed ₹5 lakh ex-gratia cheques to families of 44 Hyderabad victims who died in the Madina bus tragedy on November 17, 2025, near Madina in Saudi Arabia. He also provided ₹3 lakh to one injured survivor.

Declaring that the government would stand by citizens in hardship and happiness, the Chief Minister said the State remained committed to supporting bereaved families affected by the tragedy.

Madina bus tragedy: State extends aid despite accident abroad

Revanth Reddy said governments do not ordinarily extend compensation for accidents occurring outside the country. However, after reviewing the distress faced by the families, the State Cabinet decided to sanction financial assistance. He said the move aimed to instil confidence that the government stands firmly with its people during crises.

He informed that he immediately contacted the Union Government after learning of the accident. In addition, he deputed Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin to Madina to coordinate relief measures.

The Chief Minister said inviting families to the Secretariat and personally handing over compensation reflected the government’s solidarity. According to him, the gesture reaffirmed the State’s responsibility toward its citizens, even in incidents occurring abroad.

The programme was attended by Government Advisor Mohd Ali Shabbir, CM Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Nampally MLA Mohammed Majid Hussain, Haj Committee Chairman Khusro Pasha, TGMREIS Vice Chairman Faheem Qureshi and State Minorities Finance Corporation Chairman Obedullah Kotwal.
