Chinese manjha injures minor in Hyderabad, raises enforcement concerns

Hyderabad: A banned Chinese manjha string seriously injured a minor in the city, once again exposing gaps in the enforcement of the prohibition.

The incident occurred when a kite string snapped during kite flying and drifted onto a road. The sharp thread slashed the boy’s neck, leaving him with severe injuries. Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors administered 22 stitches. Relatives said the boy survived a critical phase and is now recovering.

The incident shocked residents and reignited concerns over public safety. Locals questioned how the banned Chinese manjha continued to circulate openly despite repeated warnings and enforcement drives.

Warnings ignored, families demand action

Residents said political leaders and public representatives had flagged the dangers of Chinese manjha several times. They recalled that Asaduddin Owaisi had raised the issue on more than 21 occasions. However, they said illegal manufacture and sale continued in several pockets of the city.

The injured boy’s father said consumer demand sustained the deadly trade. He said people bought Chinese manjha for amusement, yet the same string put innocent lives at risk. He questioned why such hazards persisted for momentary entertainment.

Following the incident, parents and residents urged the government to impose stricter penalties. They demanded a zero-tolerance approach to the sale and use of Chinese manjha within city limits and called for harsh punishment for violators.

Police officials said they had conducted inspections and raids on kite shops across Hyderabad. They confirmed that teams seized banned manjha at several locations and registered cases against traders. Despite these efforts, residents said illegal sales continued in some areas and called for sustained enforcement to prevent further injuries.
