Two children drown in quarry pit at Arundhati Nagar

Hyderabad: What started as a routine family visit ended in tragedy in Arundhati Nagar, where two young boys drowned after slipping into an abandoned quarry pit.

The victims—Durgaprasad, 11, from Guntur, and Subrahmanyam, 8, from Kaukuru—were staying with relatives and went out to play on Thursday afternoon. Hours passed. They didn’t come back. By evening, their families panicked and contacted the police.

Cops from the Jawaharnagar station began a search. It didn’t take long. Locals tipped them off about a nearby water-filled pit—Bandabavi, as it’s known in the area. Two small bodies were spotted floating.

Police pulled them out and confirmed the worst: the missing boys were gone. Their remains were sent to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem. The families were informed about their children drowning. Shock hangs heavy over the neighbourhood.
