Hyderabad: A 36-year-old man died by suicide after alleged harassment involving morphed nude photos within the limits of Chikkadpally Police Station in the Ramnagar division.
The deceased, Premkumar (36), faced repeated threats from unknown persons, according to his wife Nagaveni. The callers demanded ₹3,000 and warned him that they would circulate nude photos and videos if he failed to pay.
Nagaveni said Premkumar informed her about the threats while returning from the Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara. She suspected that someone had hacked his phone and asked him not to panic.
She also advised him not to pay money for loans unrelated to him. Family members supported her view and encouraged him to approach the police.
Morphed photos harassment caused severe mental distress
Nagaveni said Premkumar later received nude photos and videos on his phone. The messages pushed him into severe mental distress.
He requested his family not to disclose the matter to anyone. Although relatives suggested buying a new phone, Premkumar remained deeply disturbed.
Unable to cope with the pressure, he hanged himself from a ceiling fan in their rented house.
After receiving information, police rushed to the spot and registered a case. They shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the cyber harassment and digital threats linked to the incident.
