Chandrababu urged to press Modi over Iran war: Narayana

Hyderabad: CPI national leader Dr. K. Narayana on Sunday urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to pressure Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and halt the ongoing Iran war. He called the Centre’s stance “questionable.”

Calls for Centre’s Intervention

Speaking at Dasari Bhavan in Vijayawada, Narayana said the conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran is causing global hardship. He alleged that the war mainly benefits US-based corporate interests. He also claimed it is driven by control over oil resources.

Moreover, he criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for staying silent on US President Donald Trump’s position. He stressed that India must actively push for de-escalation. According to him, Chandrababu Naidu can influence Modi due to his support for the Centre. Therefore, he urged Naidu to take a firm stand.

Economic Impact Concerns

Meanwhile, Narayana warned that the conflict is already affecting the global economy. Fuel prices such as petrol, diesel, and gas have increased in India. As a result, the transport sector is under pressure.

He added that gas shortages have forced many hotels, restaurants, and hostels to shut down. This has affected workers and daily wage labourers.

‘No War’ Rally Announcement

In this context, he announced a large-scale “No War” rally in Hyderabad on March 29. The rally will bring together several political parties. He also appealed to citizens to join the protest against US militaristic policies.

TTD Chairman’s Issue

Shifting focus, Narayana said it is inappropriate for a person facing allegations to continue as Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. He stressed that only a devout individual should hold the post. This, he said, is important to protect the temple’s sanctity.

Potti Sreeramulu Statue Debate

At the same time, he welcomed the plan to install a statue of Potti Sreeramulu in Amaravati. However, he opposed involving corporate entities in the project. He demanded that the government execute it directly to preserve its value.

Other Political Reactions

Additionally, Narayana reacted to remarks by Garikapati Narasimha Rao on the mid-day meal scheme. He called the comments unfortunate and urged a retraction.

He also expressed concern over reported property disputes in the family of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He said such issues should be resolved privately or through legal means.

Vanaja Demands Action

Separately, CPI national executive member Akkineni Vanaja demanded that the state government fulfil its promises. She called for land allocation to the poor and financial support for housing.

She also urged the immediate completion of TIDCO housing projects. Furthermore, she announced statewide protests on March 24.
