CEO urges parties to appoint booth-level agents ahead of SIR

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy on Thursday urged political parties to appoint at least one Booth Level Agent (BLA) for every polling station ahead of the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Addressing representatives of recognised political parties at the CEO’s office, Sudharsan Reddy said effective booth-level coordination was essential to ensure accuracy and transparency during the revision process. He advised parties to appoint BLAs who were preferably local residents.

The CEO said BLAs should work in close coordination with Booth Level Officers to ensure smooth implementation of the SIR. He added that early preparation would help reduce complaints once the exercise formally begins.

Booth level agents SIR exercise to begin in Telangana

Sudharsan Reddy said the Special Intensive Revision was currently underway in 12 states. He added that the schedule for the remaining states, including Telangana, was expected to be announced during April–May 2026. Given the limited time available after notification, preparatory activities had already begun in the state.

As part of the preparations, officials completed table-top mapping to link electors listed in the 2025 electoral rolls with those covered during the 2002 revision. Field-level verification is now in progress, with Booth Level Officers conducting house-to-house visits, particularly in urban areas.

During the SIR, Booth Level Officers will visit each polling area three to four times. They will distribute enumeration forms during the first visit and cover households missed earlier in subsequent rounds. The CEO clarified that electors not mapped during the preparatory phase would still be able to submit their details during the revision.

Reiterating the role of political parties, Sudharsan Reddy urged them to appoint BLAs at the earliest across all polling stations. He said stronger coordination would help address grievances quickly and ensure that no eligible voter was left out.

The meeting was attended by Additional CEO Vasam Venkateshwar Reddy, Deputy Chief Registration Officer Hari Singh, and other officials.
