BRS MLCs suspended after protest in Legislative Council

Hyderabad: Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy suspended BRS MLCs for the day after protests disrupted proceedings in the Telangana Legislative Council on Monday.

Earlier, BRS members took out a rally from Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park to the Legislative Council. They raised slogans against Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. They demanded his dismissal and sought a probe into alleged irregularities linked to Raghava Constructions.

The legislators carried placards reading “Save Democracy” and “Ponguleti Must Resign.” They called for a House Committee probe or an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge. However, marshals stopped them at the entrance when they tried to carry placards inside.

This led to a brief scuffle. Despite repeated warnings, the members continued their protest. Consequently, tensions escalated inside the House soon after proceedings began.

As the session began, BRS MLCs rushed towards the podium and raised slogans. They pressed for an adjournment motion to discuss the issue. At the same time, they repeated demands for a probe and the Minister’s removal from the Cabinet.

With the House in disorder, the Chairman invoked rules and suspended the protesting members for the rest of the day. Marshals then escorted them out. Soon after, the House adjourned briefly.

Meanwhile, the suspended MLCs continued protests outside the Council Hall. Police deployed large contingents. They detained the legislators and shifted them to Telangana Bhavan in buses.

Later, a BRS delegation led by working president KT Rama Rao was scheduled to meet Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Raj Bhavan. The delegation planned to submit a representation on alleged irregularities and seek action.
