BRS MLAs march with maize, stopped at Assembly

Hyderabad: BRS MLAs marched with maize from Gun Park to the Assembly and staged a protest over farmer issues.

Party MLAs and MLCs paid tributes at the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial before launching the protest. They carried maize cobs to highlight distress among farmers.

The legislators demanded remunerative prices for maize and release of pending Rythu Bharosa dues. They then tried to enter the Assembly with the produce.

BRS MLAs stopped at Assembly gate during maize protest

Marshals stopped them at the Assembly gate and blocked entry with maize cobs. Officials said Assembly rules do not allow such items inside.

The move triggered tension as leaders argued with police and marshals. They raised slogans against the government and accused it of ignoring farmers.

Leaders questioned why farmer produce could not be taken into the Assembly. They said the House represents farmers and should allow their concerns.

The party alleged that stopping them from raising farmer issues was undemocratic. It accused the government of suppressing voices on agricultural distress.
