Hyderabad: A high-level delegation from Bordeaux Métropole visited Hyderabad on Thursday to explore the city’s historic architecture and urban heritage as part of a growing cultural exchange.
The delegation was led by Anne-Laure Moniot, Head of Architecture and Urban Heritage, and included Pascal Loreau, Deputy Consul of France in Hyderabad, and Hugo Cauvet, Coordinator and Focal Point for Bordeaux Métropole.
Bordeaux heritage Hyderabad dialogue highlights World Heritage potential
The French team met GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi at the GHMC Head Office to discuss Hyderabad’s architectural legacy. They examined the potential for World Heritage City status, highlighting the blend of Qutb Shahi, Asaf Jahi, and modern urban elements.
Later, they held discussions with GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, Additional Commissioner Anuraag Jayanti, QQSUDA, and NIUM officials. These meetings focused on conservation projects, urban infrastructure, and heritage development especially in the Old City under QQSUDA’s jurisdiction.
Officials also presented the Musi Riverfront Development Project to the visiting team.
French delegation visits Charminar, Salarjung Museum, and Qutb Shahi Tombs
As part of a field study, the Bordeaux delegation toured heritage sites including Osmania General Hospital, the Old MCH Office, Sardar Mahal, Khursheed Jah Devdi, Charminar, and Salarjung Museum.
Earlier, they visited the Qutb Shahi Tombs to observe restoration and landscape works under progress.
Over the coming days, the team will continue site visits across Hyderabad. They are expected to draft a formal proposal to enhance collaboration between Bordeaux Métropole and Hyderabad, reinforcing their existing sister-city partnership.
