Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao said the recent panchayat results confirm the party’s steady rural rise. The BJP is now growing from “panchayat to Parliament.”
At a felicitation event held at Linga Basava Garden in Rayagiri, Rao honoured BJP candidates who won as Sarpanches, Upa-Sarpanches, and Ward Members in Bhongir district. He described the victories as a clear sign that the party was no longer confined to urban centres.
According to him, the BJP won nearly 1,000 Sarpanch posts, 1,200 Upa-Sarpanch positions, and more than 10,000 Ward Member seats across the state. He added that these gains counter the long-held belief that the BJP lacked a rural base.
Panchayat wins mark shift in party’s village base
Drawing a comparison, Rao noted that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s Sarpanch tally had plunged from 8,000 in previous elections to just 2,000 now. He also said BJP had gained control of several major panchayats in Bhongir and across the district.
Rao credited the results to the hard work of party karyakartas and growing public trust in the Modi government’s rural schemes. He specifically mentioned initiatives like PMGSY, PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, Ayushman Bharat, and Har Ghar Nal. According to Rao, these had significantly improved support for the BJP in villages.
He argued that Telangana needs a “double engine government” for faster development. Expressing confidence in the party’s momentum, he predicted that the BJP would form the state government in 2028.
