BJP stages hunger strike over pending retirement dues

Hyderabad: The BJP hunger strike over pending retirement dues intensified on Monday as party leaders demanded immediate clearance of benefits owed to retired employees, teachers and staff.

The Bharatiya Janata Party Telangana unit organised the protest at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park. State president N Ramchander Rao led the BJP hunger strike and accused the Congress government of delaying payments to former employees.

A large number of retired staff, including women, joined the protest and raised slogans against the government. Protesters said the delay had pushed several families into financial distress.

BJP hunger strike targets Congress over retirees’ dues

Addressing the gathering, Rao described the situation as “pathetic.” He said retirees who had served for decades were forced to visit offices repeatedly to claim their dues.

He alleged that some employees had died without receiving retirement benefits. Moreover, he claimed that others faced extreme distress due to mounting financial burdens.

Rao also criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing him of financial mismanagement. He further targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that unfulfilled promises in Telangana had weakened the party’s credibility.

During the BJP hunger strike, Rao accused the government of neglecting welfare commitments to farmers, youth, women and marginalised communities. He termed the administration a “40 per cent commission government,” alleging corruption and land irregularities.

He further alleged that authorities demolished houses of the poor under the guise of HYDRAA and Musi River beautification. He described the governance model as “Crowbar Rule,” claiming ministers were using force against vulnerable sections.

BJP hunger strike to raise issue in Assembly

BJP Legislature Party leader A Maheshwar Reddy and MP Etala Rajender expressed solidarity with the retirees. They assured protesters that the party would raise the issue strongly in both the Assembly and the Legislative Council.

Leaders said the BJP hunger strike would continue to highlight the plight of retired employees until the government cleared all pending dues. They reiterated that retirees deserved timely settlement of their hard-earned benefits.
