Hyderabad: Revenue, Housing and Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the Bhubharati Act anniversary marked the beginning of a new era in protecting land rights in Telangana. He said the Congress government had rebuilt a revenue system that had collapsed during the previous BRS regime.
The minister reviewed the progress of the Act with officials at the Secretariat on Monday, marking one year since its implementation. He said the occasion was not merely about the completion of one year of a law. Instead, he described it as the start of a new phase in safeguarding land rights across the state.
Ponguleti said the government, under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, had taken up the task of restoring the revenue administration. According to him, the Bhubharati Act anniversary reflected a major institutional shift in land governance.
He said the Bhubharati Act, introduced last year, had emerged as a landmark reform in land administration. He said the law had aimed to ensure transparency, accountability and corruption-free services. As a result, revenue services had become more accessible and simpler for ordinary citizens.
Bhubharati Act anniversary and revenue reforms
The minister said the earlier Dharani portal and the 2020 Record of Rights Act had caused serious hardship to landowners. He said many people had struggled to establish ownership of their land. Even those who owned land had to visit several offices to prove their rights, he said.
He said the Bhubharati framework had addressed these long-standing problems by simplifying procedures and improving service delivery. Therefore, the reform had reduced difficulties faced by citizens in revenue matters.
Recalling an earlier promise, Ponguleti said the Congress government had launched the Bhubharati portal on April 14 last year. The launch had coincided with the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He said the portal had since played an important role in resolving long-pending land issues.
Bhubharati Act anniversary highlighted portal impact
The minister said the portal had helped reduce disputes linked to land matters in Telangana. He said its implementation had strengthened public access to revenue services and improved confidence in the land administration system.
He also said the Act had moved land governance towards greater transparency and accountability. Moreover, he said the reform had made official services easier to access for common citizens. In that context, the Bhubharati Act anniversary was presented as both a review point and a signal of continued reforms in the revenue sector.
Ponguleti said the government considered the Act a turning point in protecting land rights. He said the reform process launched under the present government had sought to correct the failures associated with the earlier system and deliver a cleaner, more citizen-friendly administration.
