Balka Suman gets bail in Minister Vivek convoy attack case

Hyderabad: Former BRS MLA Balka Suman secured bail on Wednesday in the Minister Vivek convoy attack case linked to the Kyathanpalli municipal election clash.

Police had remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days following the altercation during the Kyathanpalli municipal chairperson and vice-chairperson election in Mancherial district. After the court granted Balka Suman bail, former ZP vice-chairman Mula Rajareddy, former councillor Anil Kumar and party leader Lakshmikanth also walked out of Adilabad jail.

Former minister Jogu Ramanna and several BRS leaders from the Chennur constituency received them outside the jail. Party workers raised slogans and escorted the leaders in a large vehicle rally towards Kyathanpalli.

Balka Suman alleges police excess in Kyathanpalli clash

Speaking to the media after his release, Balka Suman said police stopped him while he was heading to the Kyathanpalli municipal office during the chairperson election. He questioned how Minister Vivek Venkatswamy’s convoy was allowed to pass.

According to him, police resorted to a lathi-charge when BRS leaders raised objections. He alleged that authorities later filed reverse cases against them.

Balka Suman said police registered cases against 22 persons in connection with the incident. He also questioned how the Congress could claim the municipal chairperson post after winning only seven seats.

He further alleged that officials in the district were acting under political pressure. According to him, authorities were behaving like employees of private interests instead of government servants.

Balka Suman also said jail authorities troubled him during his remand. He added that he spent Holi in custody and missed his son’s birthday.

The BRS leader said his party never followed vendetta politics during its ten-year rule. He demanded that authorities conduct the Kyathanpalli municipal chairperson election in a fair manner.
