Armoor drunk driving cases: Court fines nine, jails two

Hyderabad: Police arrested 11 motorists during a special enforcement drive in Armoor drunk driving cases and produced them before a local court on Thursday, officials said.

Armoor SHO Satyanarayana Goud said police conducted a special drunk and drive enforcement operation in the Armoor municipal town area. During the drive, officers checked motorists and identified several drivers operating vehicles after consuming alcohol.

Police arrested 11 offenders during the enforcement and later presented them before the court in Armoor.

Penalties imposed in Armoor drunk driving cases

According to the SHO, the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Armoor heard the Armoor drunk driving cases on Thursday. After examining the violations, the court imposed penalties on the offenders.

The court directed nine offenders to pay a fine of ₹10,000 each. The total fine collected from them amounted to ₹90,000.

The magistrate, JFCM Bhavya Sri, also sentenced two offenders to five days of simple imprisonment for the offence.

Satyanarayana Goud urged motorists not to drive vehicles after consuming alcohol. He said strict penalties, including heavy fines and imprisonment, could be imposed under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

He also advised motorists to carry valid vehicle documents at all times while driving. According to police, regular enforcement drives would continue to ensure road safety in the town.
