HYDERABAD: Unstable summer weather continues to sweep across the Telugu states, with Andhra Pradesh witnessing a sharp contrast between scorching heat and sudden rainfall. While several areas are enduring temperatures exceeding 40°C, others are experiencing intermittent rain and thunderstorms, creating serious disruption to daily life and agriculture.
The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather alert for multiple districts in Andhra Pradesh today, warning of potential heavy rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds. Affected districts include Vijayawada, Guntur, Krishna, Tirupati, Chittoor, Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Nandyal, East Godavari, Eluru, Kakinada, Alluri, Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalli.
Sudden weather shifts, significant crop damage
Over the past two days, intense sunshine has been followed by unexpected downpours in the afternoons. These erratic weather patterns are wreaking havoc on agriculture, especially for farmers growing bananas, mangoes, paddy, maize, and chillies. Sudden gusty winds have uprooted plants and damaged yields in several districts.
Officials have urged the public, particularly farmers, to take precautions as further thunderstorms and lightning are expected this evening. Residents have been advised to stay indoors during storms and avoid taking shelter near trees or electric poles.
The impact of unseasonal rains during peak harvest periods continues to mount, with many farmers counting losses. State authorities are monitoring the situation and may consider relief measures if the damage persists.
