All political parties must support women’s reservations bill: Bandi Sanjay

Hyderabad: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay on April 12 urged all political parties to support the women’s reservations bill in Parliament. He said women would teach a fitting lesson to any party that opposed the measure.

He described political reservation for women in legislative bodies as a decades-old dream. According to him, the proposed 33 per cent quota under the women’s reservations bill marked a historic milestone. He also appealed to parties to rise above political considerations and extend support.

The Union Minister said the women’s reservations bill reflected the hopes and aspirations of women. He stressed that women’s representation in Parliament must increase. He added that the number of parliamentary seats would rise after the delimitation exercise.

Women’s reservations bill and Telangana impact

Bandi Sanjay said the increase in seats would create opportunities for women in legislative bodies. Sanjay stated that nearly 60 women would get representation in the Telangana Legislative Assembly. Bandi Sanjay reiterated the need for broader political backing for the women’s reservations bill.

Sanjay said the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which aims to provide reservations for women, would be introduced during the special Parliament session from the 16th to the 18th of this month. He added that authorities were taking steps to implement the law before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
