NEW DELHI: Following the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has temporarily suspended its ongoing protest programmes. The attack, which targeted tourists, resulted in several deaths and left many seriously injured.
In a statement, AIMPLB president expressed deep condolences and announced a three-day halt in the Board’s campaign against proposed amendments to the Waqf law. The decision was taken as a gesture of solidarity with the bereaved families.
Dr Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, national convenor of the AIMPLB’s Waqf Protection Committee, issued a statement strongly condemning the attack, describing it as extremely tragic and deplorable. He confirmed that approximately 28 people lost their lives, while 20 others sustained serious injuries.
As a mark of mourning and support for the victims’ families, Dr Ilyas issued a circular to state and district convenors, instructing them to pause all protest activities for three days. He clarified that the campaign would resume as usual after the mourning period.
