AI literacy program in Telangana sees TGMREIS students excel

Hyderabad: More than 2,000 students from Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGMREIS) showcased working models under an AI literacy program implemented across Telangana. Consequently, the AI literacy program covered seven districts and focused on practical learning.

The initiative received support from United Welfare Hyderabad, along with Centific and Swinfy. Moreover, it engaged 40 schools and 61 volunteers. As a result, students developed projects addressing real-world problems.

Students built applications such as AI Course Explorer to help choose colleges. In addition, they created ‘Warm Hearts’ for clothing distribution. Similarly, ‘GiveLife’ supported blood and organ donation needs.

Projects like ‘GoGreen’ promoted organic farming. Meanwhile, some students worked on eco-friendly manure solutions. Others, however, developed ‘ParentConnect’ to support parenting needs.

Aditi Khandekar from United Welfare Hyderabad said the organisation piloted the AI literacy program in Telangana. She added that the workshops ran for four days. Each day, therefore, included three-hour sessions.

The sessions started with basic computer literacy. Subsequently, they moved to research framing and problem identification. Students also learned critical thinking and practical AI tools.

AI literacy program drives innovation among students

She said students quickly moved from unfamiliarity to building working applications. As a result, many created websites and structured tools. In some cases, they also added interactive features.

Rani G., CEO of Swinfy Solutions, said the training focused on both usage and responsibility. Moreover, students learned to generate text, images, and audio using AI tools. At the same time, they understood system limits.

Officials said many students used digital tools extensively for the first time. Even so, they produced functional outputs. This, therefore, showed rapid learning and growing confidence.

In a message, Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Azharuddin praised the students. He said they showed “AI creativity with a heart and soul.” He also urged them to use technology responsibly.

TGMREIS Secretary Dr B. Shafiullah said the initiative aimed to build relevant skills. Furthermore, he added that it encouraged students to solve everyday problems.

Academic consultants Sadia Alladin and Srinivas Rao said the programme improved student confidence. They also noted higher engagement levels among participants.

The event ended with certificate distribution. Finally, students presented a song created using AI tools.
