Adluri launches skill programmes for transgender empowerment in Telangana

Hyderabad: Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar launched transgender skill programmes on Saturday to provide social and economic support to the community. He said the government aimed to ensure dignity, equality and employment opportunities.

He stated that the Congress government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, had committed to inclusive growth for all sections of society. Moreover, he said the government recognised long-standing challenges faced by transgender persons and initiated targeted measures.

The Minister spoke at the inauguration of three training programmes at the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Gachibowli. He said the transgender skill programmes focused on education, training and employment to promote self-reliance.

Transgender skill programmes focus on jobs and training

The government introduced three training initiatives under the transgender skill programmes. These include car driving, hotel management and drone pilot training.

Under the driving programme, 50 transgender persons will receive training through Maruti Suzuki Driving School. As a result, participants can seek jobs as drivers or pursue self-employment.

Under hotel management training, 25 participants will learn canteen chef and hospitality skills at NITHM. This will help them secure jobs in hotels, restaurants and catering services.

In addition, 16 transgender persons will undergo drone pilot training at the Telangana State Aviation Academy in Begumpet. The Minister said drone technology offers growing opportunities in agriculture, surveying and industry.

Transgender skill programmes backed by government funding

The transgender skill programmes will benefit a total of 91 participants. The government allocated Rs 17.72 lakh to support the initiative.

Adluri Lakshman Kumar said these efforts aim to ensure equal rights and financial stability for transgender persons. He added that access to skills and employment would help them live with dignity and self-respect.

Officials including Anita Ramachandran, V. Venkataramana and Captain S. N. Reddy attended the programme. Representatives from various departments and institutions also participated.

Around 80 transgender persons from different regions took part in the event. The programme highlighted the government’s focus on inclusive welfare and long-term empowerment.
