Two arrested for selling PDS rice in branded bags at high prices in Adilabad

Hyderabad: Adilabad police arrested two shopkeepers for repackaging and selling subsidised rice in branded bags at inflated prices. The arrests followed raids conducted on Tuesday at Rajitha Kirana and Andhra Kirana shops near Shivaji Chowk, on the instructions of SP Akhil Mahajan.

A total of 79 quintals of PDS rice were seized from the two shops. Police said the accused were filling government-distributed rice into branded bags and sealing them with machines before selling the stock at commercial rates.

The arrested were identified as Googulwar Rajeshwar and Sheikh Ayub. A third accused, Sheikh Aslam, is absconding.

SP Mahajan inspected the seized stock and warned that strict action would be taken against those misusing subsidised supplies meant for the poor.

The repackaged rice was being sold under names such as Jaisriram, Golden Cycle, Suryateja, Madhuram, Deepam, Geethanjali, White Platinum, and Sri Datta.

DSP Jeevan Reddy, CCS CI Chandrasekhar, One Town CI Sunil Kumar, and SI Ashok were part of the team that carried out the operation.
