Hyderabad: Covid-19 cases are once again on the rise across India, with active cases reaching 3,976, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health. Officials said the number of cases has increased fifteen-fold in just ten days, sparking concerns among health experts.
Kerala recorded the highest number of active cases at 1,435, while Maharashtra follows with 506 cases.
In a worrying development, the death toll has now reached 34, with six fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.
On Monday, an 18-year-old pregnant woman and a 47-year-old woman in Ahmedabad succumbed to the infection. On Sunday, a 22-year-old woman in Delhi and a 25-year-old man in Tamil Nadu lost their lives to the virus.
It may be mentioned that the Karnataka government has already issued a public advisory, urging residents to wear masks in crowded areas, maintain physical distancing, and follow hygiene protocols. The state currently has 253 active cases. “Anyone experiencing fever, cough, chest pain, or breathing difficulties should seek immediate testing,” the advisory stressed.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Monday noted that the threat of another Covid-19 wave was far from over. It directed the Centre to submit details of its preparedness regarding sample collection, Covid centres, and transport policies.
Union Minister of State for Health and Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav, assured that both departments were on high alert and monitoring the situation closely. “We have reviewed oxygen plants, ICU beds, and other facilities set up during previous Covid-19 waves. All measures are in place to tackle any scenario,” he said.
As cases continue to rise, authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols to prevent another large-scale outbreak.
