Telangana officials have urged the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to restrict Andhra Pradesh’s excessive water usage from the Srisailam reservoir, emphasizing fair distribution between both states.
HYDERABAD: Officials from the irrigation departments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh participated in a special meeting of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), chaired by Board Chairman Atul Jain, to discuss the ongoing water-sharing dispute between the two states.
During the meeting, Telangana officials urged the KRMB to restrict Andhra Pradesh from excessive water usage from the Srisailam reservoir. They expressed concerns that unregulated withdrawals by Andhra Pradesh were affecting Telangana’s rightful share of Krishna River water.
KRMB Calls for Mutual Agreement on Water Sharing
In response, the KRMB chairman advised the Engineer-in-Chiefs of both states to reach a mutual agreement on water-sharing requirements. Following this, Telangana’s Engineer-in-Chief Anil Kumar and Andhra Pradesh’s Engineer-in-Chief Venkateshwara Rao held discussions to explore possible solutions.
The dispute over Krishna River water allocation has been a long-standing issue between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with both states seeking a larger share of available water resources. The KRMB continues to mediate discussions in an effort to ensure equitable distribution.
