Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 528 motorists for drunk driving during weekend enforcement drives, with the majority involving two-wheeler riders.
Of the total, 391 were riding two-wheelers, 22 were operating auto-rickshaws, 113 were in four-wheelers, and two were driving heavy vehicles.
Offenders were classified by Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC). Police reported 484 drivers had BAC levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 27 tested between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml. Seventeen cases exceeded 300 mg/100 ml, reaching up to 500 mg/100 ml.
All violators will be produced before court. Officials reiterated that drunk driving is a punishable offence. In fatal accident cases, offenders will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder—carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and fine.
Cyberabad Traffic Police appealed to the public to avoid alcohol-impaired driving and adhere to road safety norms.
