454 booked in Cyberabad drunk driving crackdown

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 454 motorists during a special drunk driving enforcement drive conducted over the weekend.

According to officials, the category-wise breakdown included 372 two-wheelers, 22 three-wheelers, 57 four-wheelers, and three heavy vehicles.

Based on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) measurements, police said 367 offenders were in the 35–200 mg/100 ml range, 70 offenders registered between 201–300 mg/100 ml, and 17 had BAC levels between 301–500 mg/100 ml.

All the accused will be produced before the court for further legal proceedings.

The Cyberabad Police cautioned that drunk driving is a grave offence, and anyone causing a fatal accident while intoxicated would be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which relates to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison along with a fine.

Authorities urged citizens to drive responsibly and help maintain road safety.
