20-year imprisonment in rape case, court awards ₹3 lakh compensation to victim

Hyderabad: A sessions court in L.B. Nagar sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a rape case after convicting him of rape and criminal intimidation.

The XIII Additional District and Sessions Court, presided over by Judge M. Vani, delivered the judgment. The court found Somashila Mahender, a resident of NTR Nagar, Mailardevpally, guilty based on evidence presented during the trial.

The case dates back to June 15, 2018. The accused entered the victim’s house on the pretext of asking for food. He found her alone, locked the door, and committed rape.

Rape case sentence includes compensation and intimidation charges

After the assault, he threatened to kill the victim if she disclosed the incident. The court convicted him under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC.

The judge sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,100. In addition, the court directed payment of ₹3 lakh as compensation to the victim.
