Hyderabad: Labour and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy on Saturday announced 100 new Indiramma houses for Chennur Municipality, stating that the Cabinet had recently discussed housing-related issues.
The Minister said the 100 new Indiramma houses formed part of the government’s broader housing commitment. He thanked voters for electing Congress representatives and reaffirmed the administration’s focus on development.
Moreover, he called for holistic growth and urged officials and public representatives to transform Chennur into a model urban local body. He said progress must span all sectors.
Projects worth nearly Rs.50 crore were grounded across all wards, he stated. Works such as borewells, CC roads and side drains were progressing rapidly. In addition, he assured that every household would receive drinking water under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, fulfilling an election promise.
Alleging large-scale irregularities under the previous BRS government’s Mission Bhagiratha scheme, he said a dedicated Godavari river-based drinking water project would be provided for Chennur residents.
The Minister also announced upcoming road widening works. Funds would be allocated for community buildings for caste associations. Furthermore, he directed councillors to remain accessible and address grievances promptly.
Responding to local demand, he assured that Godavari sand would be made available within six months. Recalling road conditions in Maremmavada before his election, he said infrastructure had improved. He criticised the previous regime for not clearing contractors’ bills.
Compensation of about Rs.18 crore was distributed to farmers of Devulawada, Babberu and Cheluk villages, he said. A 100-bed hospital would be inaugurated in May. Meanwhile, crematorium development works worth Rs.1.20 crore were underway.
100 new Indiramma houses part of wider civic push
The Minister reiterated that the 100 new Indiramma houses reflected the government’s commitment to housing security. He said discussions in the Cabinet had focused on resolving housing concerns.
He maintained that development initiatives were progressing simultaneously in multiple sectors. Therefore, he urged coordination between elected representatives and officials to achieve the model municipality vision.
100 new Indiramma houses announcement amid convoy attack row
On the same occasion, the Minister condemned an attack on his convoy during the Kyathanpalli Municipality election. He alleged that leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi deliberately orchestrated the violence.
A police constable sustained serious head injuries in the incident. A Congress worker was also hurt.
He accused former MLA Balka Suman of obstructing the municipality’s governing body election and spreading misinformation. “We never encouraged violence. BRS leaders stopped us and attacked us while we were going to exercise our ex-officio voting rights,” he said. He further alleged that Balka Suman hurled a traffic cone at his convoy.
The Minister said no false cases or illegal arrests had been made against BRS leaders under the Congress government. However, he stated that Balka Suman was arrested after the constable sustained serious injuries. He added that Suman was remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
He also criticised senior BRS leaders for visiting Suman in jail. According to him, such visits signalled encouragement of such incidents. “The law will take its own course,” he asserted.
