₹10 lakh SHG insurance for every woman member

Hyderabad: Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka on Tuesday announced ₹10 lakh SHG insurance coverage for every woman member under the Accident Insurance Scheme in cases of accidental death.

She said the government introduced the scheme in 2024 to provide financial security to Self-Help Group members. Since its launch, authorities settled 231 claims and disbursed ₹23.1 crore to beneficiary families.

Seethakka stated that ₹10 lakh SHG insurance coverage had brought critical relief to families facing sudden loss due to accidents. According to her, the scheme reduced financial distress and protected vulnerable households.

In addition, she said the government implemented a loan insurance scheme to safeguard women borrowers. Under this initiative, insurance coverage of up to ₹2 lakh covers outstanding bank loans taken by female group members.

She noted that officials processed 2,993 claims under the loan insurance scheme so far. As a result, the government paid ₹223.7 crore towards these claims.

₹10 lakh SHG insurance strengthens women’s groups

Seethakka said the combined impact of accident and loan insurance schemes revitalised many women’s groups across the State. She observed that several groups regained stability after receiving claim support.

Moreover, she said new members were joining SHGs as confidence improved. With ₹10 lakh SHG insurance coverage in place, women expanded their businesses with greater assurance, she added.

The Minister asserted that the State government remained committed to strengthening women’s empowerment initiatives. She emphasised that women’s progress formed the foundation of overall development in the State.

Seethakka said the administration would continue supporting SHGs through financial protection measures. She added that insurance-backed security enabled women to pursue economic activities without fear of sudden setbacks.
