Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the Congress party secured 66 percent of Gram Panchayat seats in the recently held three-phase elections, describing the outcome as a strong public endorsement of his government’s two-year rule.
Speaking to the media at his Jubilee Hills residence alongside ministers, Revanth said the Congress won 7,527 out of 12,702 panchayats. Additionally, Congress rebels claimed 808 seats, effectively pushing the party’s share to 66 percent. In contrast, the BRS secured 3,511 seats and the BJP managed 710.
He alleged that BRS and BJP fought the elections as an informal alliance, which together won only 4,221 seats. “These results reflect the people’s confidence in our governance,” he asserted.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the party’s wins in the Secunderabad Cantonment and Jubilee Hills by-elections. He noted that Congress gained a majority in 87 out of 94 Assembly segments where the panchayat polls took place. He emphasised that the elections concluded peacefully and without any vindictive action against rivals.
ON DEFECTIONS AND SPEAKER’S RULING
When asked about criticism over the Speaker’s decision on BRS MLA defections, Revanth said he would not comment on the ruling. “If anyone is dissatisfied, they can approach the courts,” he stated. He cited former minister T. Harish Rao’s own claim that BRS had only 37 MLAs, questioning why objections had surfaced only now.
He also said BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao had become politically inactive and claimed that even voters in Gajwel had lost faith in him. “Parties with leadership maintain discipline; those without it behave otherwise,” he remarked.
MUNICIPAL POLLS: SPECIAL SESSION PLANNED
With Sarpanch elections complete, Revanth said the government plans to hold polls for MPTCs, ZPTCs, and municipalities next. A special Assembly session will soon be called to gather opinions from all parties, especially regarding the 42 percent BC reservation issue.
“If we achieve consensus, the elections could take place as early as January,” he said, adding that the process would remain democratic.
