Hyderabad: The Telangana government will operationalise 571 new primary schools across the state in the 2025–26 academic year in localities lacking existing government schools, as per newly issued guidelines. The move follows directions from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to ensure universal access to foundational education.
According to the education department, 212 rural habitations and 359 urban colonies or wards will receive new primary schools. The criteria mandates at least 20 children residing in areas currently without a government-run school.
In a key expansion, the government has also approved the introduction of Lower Kindergarten (LKG), Upper Kindergarten (UKG), and pre-primary sections in all government primary schools beginning this academic year. Artificial intelligence is also set to be introduced as a formal subject across all government schools.
The Chief Minister, who recently reviewed the education department’s plans, is said to be placing special emphasis on revamping government school infrastructure and curriculum. District officials have been instructed to set up the new schools in existing public buildings or, where necessary, in rented spaces. Funding support will be routed through the Director of School Education.
The initiative is aimed at improving learning outcomes and bridging access gaps for children in underserved areas.
