Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday stressed the importance of promoting the mother tongue alongside English in schools, while speaking at the Amberpet Mandal Recognized School Association Awards event held at Sundarayya Vigyan Kendra.
Awards to honour teachers, students, and parents
Reddy praised the Amberpet Mandal Recognized School Association for annually felicitating outstanding teachers and meritorious tenth-grade students. He congratulated all award recipients and appreciated the association’s efforts to build academic competitiveness. Such recognition, he noted, encourages hard work among both students and educators.
“Education has become crucial in every household today,” Reddy said. “Unlike in the past, parents are now voluntarily sending their children to school. This reflects a healthy change in society. Whether rich or poor, families now understand the value of education.”
Parents urged to support children’s learning
Reddy called on parents to support their children’s education regardless of the type of school they attend. He stated that many accomplished individuals in India were products of government schools and urged families not to look down on public institutions.
He noted that schools in Amberpet are ensuring that education remains accessible by addressing issues related to school fees. “What parents should leave their children is not property, but quality education. They must be affectionate, attentive, and actively involved in their children’s lives,” he said.
Mother tongue prioritised in new education policy
Referring to the National Education Policy introduced by the central government, Reddy said the policy emphasises the importance of the mother tongue in early education. “Students should learn English for career growth, but they must also respect and retain their mother tongue. Telugu should be promoted along with English,” he said.
He advocated for vocational training at the high school level, asserting that education must be aligned with real-world demands. “Students from working and low-income families in budget schools are demonstrating notable talent. Amberpet must lead in all areas of development,” he added.
