KARIMNAGAR: The Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) is currently facing a significant challenge in revenue collection, with a substantial portion of property tax dues still pending. This shortfall in tax collection poses potential hurdles for the city’s developmental and infrastructural projects, which heavily rely on these funds.
Property tax serves as one of the primary revenue sources for urban local bodies, including the KMC. These taxes are levied on both residential and non-residential properties within the municipal limits and are crucial for funding public services and infrastructure maintenance.
In the previous financial year, Karimnagar achieved a property tax collection efficiency of approximately 85.57%. While this indicates a relatively high collection rate, the current pending dues suggest a decline in tax compliance among property owners.
The KMC has been proactive in facilitating tax payments by offering online payment options through its official portal. Despite these measures, the persistence of outstanding dues indicates the need for more effective strategies to enhance compliance.
To address this issue, the municipal authorities are considering several initiatives, including awareness campaigns to educate property owners about the importance of timely tax payments and the potential consequences of defaults. Additionally, stricter enforcement measures, such as penalties for late payments, are being evaluated to improve compliance rates.
The KMC emphasises that timely payment of property taxes is not only a legal obligation but also a civic duty that ensures the continuous development and maintenance of the city’s infrastructure and public services. Residents are urged to fulfill their tax responsibilities promptly to contribute to the overall growth and well-being of Karimnagar.
