Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Friday described Coal India as central to advancing India’s mineral self-reliance goals, citing its push into rare mineral production and efforts to uphold transparent and sustainable mining.
Addressing the international conference on “Sustainable & Responsible Mining Through Best Mine Closure Practices” in Hyderabad, Reddy said Coal India is aligning with Atmanirbhar Bharat priorities by scaling mineral output without harming local communities.
He underlined that the PSU is adopting advanced technologies and reforming its operational framework to maintain transparency and reduce environmental risks.
Reddy highlighted that lease renewals covering around 500 mineral blocks will now move through a simplified single-window system to accelerate clearances.
Coal India’s new ventures into rare minerals mark a strategic expansion of the country’s critical mineral resources, he said, adding that socio-environmental safeguards will remain in focus throughout these efforts.
