Hyderabad: The Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) will organise a large public meeting named “Mahagarjana” at LB Stadium in Hyderabad on August 13, demanding that the state government implement its promised hike in pensions for disabled persons and Aasara scheme beneficiaries.
MRPS founder and disabled rights activist Mandakrishna Madiga announced the protest while addressing the media at Basheerbagh Press Club on Thursday. He accused the Congress-led state government of delaying its election promise and warned of large-scale mobilisation if demands are not met.
“As stated in the Congress manifesto, pensions must be increased. Lakhs of Aasara and disabled pensioners will gather for this Mahagarjana. We will bring Hyderabad’s roads to a standstill,” he said.
He also demanded that the government issue an ordinance ensuring reservation for persons with disabilities before the expected notification for local body polls, likely between August 15 and 20.
Mandakrishna cautioned the state leadership against continued inaction. “If the government remains stubborn, the agitation will intensify. We will express our anguish through this Mahagarjana and fight until our demands are met,” he said.
