Telangana schools reopen; RTA cracks down on unfit buses

School Bus Checks

Hyderabad: As schools across Telangana resumed after a 45-day summer break, transport authorities wasted no time in launching a statewide crackdown on school buses flouting safety norms.

In a large-scale inspection drive on Thursday morning, officials from the Road Transport Authority (RTA) fanned out across key locations including Rajendranagar, Aramghar, Appa Junction, Shamshabad, Shadnagar, Chevella, and Miyapur. Their focus: ensuring that every vehicle ferrying students met roadworthiness and regulatory standards.

The checks weren’t limited to the outskirts. Similar raids were reported in major cities and towns like Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Karimnagar, Khammam, and Warangal, where school buses were stopped and scrutinised for compliance.

Officers inspected each vehicle thoroughly, verifying critical documents like registration certificates, permits, driving licences, fitness certificates, and insurance papers. Beyond paperwork, they also examined vital safety equipment such as hand brakes, fire extinguishers, and medical kits.

Buses found lacking in any aspect be it expired permits or missing safety gear were seized on the spot. The initiative, aimed at protecting children and curbing negligence, sent a strong message to school operators across the state.
