Hyderabad: BTech convenor quota counselling in Telangana is facing serious delays, with officials now saying it probably won’t start until at least the second week of July.
This comes despite the EAPCET results being announced quickly on May 11. Since then, however, progress has slowed to a crawl. A tangle of unresolved issues is at the heart of the delay – ranging from disputes over college fee structures and pending affiliation approvals to the overlap with Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling for IIT admissions.
The Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) did put forward revised fee proposals for engineering colleges, but the state government has yet to give its approval, leaving the process in limbo. In a surprising twist, an IAS officer, who isn’t even a member of TAFRC, attended a key meeting and raised concerns about the proposed numbers, which has further muddied the waters. Without final fees in place, the counselling process can’t move forward.
Meanwhile, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) hasn’t granted affiliation to any engineering colleges in the state yet. That approval deadline has now been extended to June 30, all but ruling out any chance of counselling starting before then.
Officials also pointed to a familiar pattern: Telangana usually kicks off its engineering seat allotments only after IIT admissions wrap up. This year, JEE Advanced results are expected on June 2, with JoSAA counselling beginning June 3 and running through six rounds over a month.
Given all these factors, education officials say it’s highly unlikely that EAPCET counselling will begin in June. At this rate, mid-July is the earliest it might start—and that could push the beginning of the academic year even further down the line.
