Hyderabad: Tensions escalated at the Sigachi Chemicals factory site in Patancheru on Wednesday as grieving families confronted Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, demanding answers on the status of missing workers three days after the explosion.
The Health Minister visited the blast-hit unit in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district, along with Congress state in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, PCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, and working president T. Jagga Reddy. On-site, he briefed the Congress leaders on the details of the incident and the government’s response.
Relatives of victims broke down before officials, voicing frustration over the absence of updates. Several accused authorities of failing to inform them even after three full days. Some engaged in heated exchanges with Rajanarsimha, pressing for clarity on when DNA results would be available.
Health Minister Damodar later told media that 36 bodies had been recovered. Sixteen have been handed over to families. DNA identification is pending for the remaining 18. He confirmed that 11 more individuals were still missing and were unlikely to have survived.
The Health minister added that several injured workers were undergoing treatment at various hospitals. He said the state had already announced immediate ex gratia support and was pursuing ₹1 crore compensation per deceased worker from the company. Medical expenses for the injured would be borne by the government.
