Hyderabad: Leaders of the Telangana Revenue Joint Action Committee (JAC), under the chairmanship of V. Lachireddy, met Minister for Revenue Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Principal Secretary Lokesh Kumar on Saturday to flag long-pending issues affecting revenue department staff.
During the meeting, held in Hyderabad, JAC representatives urged the minister to allocate office space in every revenue village for the soon-to-be-appointed Village Governance Officers. They requested a thorough review of the duties of staff from junior assistants to deputy tahsildars and called for a clear job chart, alongside consideration of mutual transfers within districts and zones.
The delegation highlighted the halt in compassionate appointments for eligible heirs of former VRAs since 2015, demanding speedy action. They proposed setting up revenue academies in each district to train staff, and promoting cultural and sports activities to boost morale among employees.
On promotions, the JAC stressed that eligible staff from junior assistant to nayab tahsildar cadres should be considered without delay. They also demanded a re-look at staffing patterns in CCLA offices, collectorates, division offices, and tahsildar offices, based on current population and workload.
Given the rising burden from certificate issuance and land disputes, the delegation requested sanction of three special revenue inspector posts per mandal. They suggested providing revenue inspectors with two-wheelers and fuel allowances, similar to the police department.
The JAC asked for increased office maintenance funds to meet higher costs of electricity, internet, and stationery. Protocol and contingency budgets for tahsildar offices were also sought, considering frequent visits by public representatives and VIPs.
On infrastructure, they demanded construction of new buildings where needed, along with women’s washrooms and other basic facilities in all tahsildar offices. They asked for the recruitment of Village Governance Officers to be completed quickly to support implementation of the Bhubharati Act-2025, and called for regular orientation training to help staff keep pace with legal updates.
Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy assured the delegation that the government was committed to addressing their concerns and described revenue staff as a vital bridge between citizens and the administration. Revenue Principal Secretary D.S. Lokesh Kumar was also present during the interaction.
Revenue JAC leaders later thanked the minister and senior officials for their positive response.
