HYDERABAD: A man has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a POCSO case registered under the limits of Chaitanyapuri Police Station. The case pertains to a serious incident in which a minor girl was sexually assaulted by her neighbour while her parents were away from home.
The accused, identified as Kasarla Mahesh alias Bunny, son of Nagayya alias Nagaraju, aged 19, a labourer by occupation and a resident of Dwarakapuram, Chaitanyapuri, originally hails from Karivirala Kothagudem village in Thungathurthy mandal, Suryapet district. He was found guilty in Crime No. 146/2023 under Sections 376(AB), 376(2)(f), and 324 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act.
According to the police, the accused confined the minor girl, who lived next door, inside her room and acted in an obscene and abusive manner during the absence of her parents. The heinous act led to the registration of a case under the POCSO Act at Chaitanyapuri Police Station.
Conviction and Sentencing
On 1 April 2025, the Honourable Fast-Track Special Judge for Rape and POCSO cases in Ranga Reddy District at L.B. Nagar convicted the accused and handed him a sentence of 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of ₹5,000. Additionally, compensation of ₹5 lakh has been awarded to the victim.
The prosecution in the case was led by Additional Public Prosecutors Smt. Sunitha and D. Raghu, who presented arguments that led to the conviction. The judgment marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to secure justice for victims of sexual violence under the POCSO Act.
