HYDERABAD: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has instructed officials to submit an immediate fact-finding report on the Kanche Gachibowli land issue. The ministry has also directed that any action taken should be in compliance with forest laws and existing court rulings. Along with the factual report, the officials have been asked to provide details of the measures taken by the concerned departments.
The directive came after a delegation of BJP leaders, led by Telangana BJP President and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, met Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in Delhi on Tuesday. The delegation included Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, MPs D.K. Aruna, Etela Rajender, Dharmapuri Arvind, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, G. Nagesh, and Raghunandan Rao. The leaders submitted a memorandum urging the Centre to intervene in the issue, highlighting that the 400-acre land in Kanche Gachibowli is classified as an environmental and heritage site.
The BJP leaders emphasized the ecological significance of the land, stating that it is home to medicinal plants and diverse bird species, making it crucial for maintaining Hyderabad’s environmental balance. They accused the Telangana government of attempting to convert the land into a real estate venture for financial gain. They also pointed out that Hyderabad Central University (HCU) students and local residents are actively protesting the government’s decision.
The delegation urged Minister Bhupender Yadav to take immediate action to protect the land and prevent its commercial exploitation. With growing public opposition and political pressure, the Centre’s response to this issue is expected to have significant implications.
