Hyderabad: Five men from Nagpur sustained injuries early Saturday when their car, guided by a Google Maps route, drove off an incomplete bridge and plunged into a stream in Jangaon district.
The mishap took place near Vadlakonda crossroads before dawn. The group, headed to Tirupati, followed directions on the navigation app, which led them onto an unfinished bridge over the Ganugupahad stream.
According to police, the car went straight into the streambed as there were no barricades or prominent warning signs. Locals raised an alarm, and a police patrol team shifted the victims to a government hospital in Jangaon.
Residents pointed out that the bridge on the Jangaon–Husnabad road has been incomplete for years and is known for repeated accidents. Though police had placed mounds of soil on the approach road to restrict entry, the lack of clear signage continues to put travellers at risk.
Police have not filed a case, but an internal report on the incident has been initiated.
