HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has issued a stay on the land acquisition process in Lagacharla and Hakimpet villages, Vikarabad district, intended for the establishment of a multipurpose industrial park. Justice J. Sreenivas Rao presided over the hearing on petitions filed by affected villagers challenging the acquisition notifications.
The court directed the government to halt the land acquisition process and issued interim orders to this effect.
The Revenue Secretary, District Collector, Lagacharla Division RDO, Dudyala Tahsildar, and Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) have been instructed to file counter affidavits. The next hearing is scheduled for April 7, with instructions that no further steps should be taken in the land acquisition process until then.
The villagers’ petitions highlighted concerns over the proposed acquisition of 1,177 acres across Lagacharla, Polepally, Hakimpet, Pulicharlakunta Tanda, and Rotibanda Tanda for the industrial corridor. The petitioners, comprising 112 farmers representing 643 acres, expressed apprehensions about losing their agricultural livelihoods and the adequacy of the compensation package, which included ₹17 lakh per acre, an Indiramma house, a DTCP-approved housing plot, and eligibility-based outsourcing employment.
The court’s decision to stay the land acquisition process underscores the importance of addressing the concerns of the affected communities before proceeding with large-scale industrial projects.
