Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Department on Friday said it has suspended 18,973 driving licences across the state between December 2023 and June 2025 for serious traffic violations, including drunk driving, substance use, and overspeeding.
The figures were released in a progress report outlining key enforcement and policy updates. The department stressed strict action against reckless and rule-violating drivers.
The report also noted ₹369.27 crore in exemptions granted under the state’s Electric Vehicle (EV) policy. From November 16, 2024, to June 30, 2025, a total of 49,633 EVs benefited from 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees.
The department has also approved the automation of driving skill test facilities: 25 tracks for two-wheelers, 27 for four-wheelers, and 5 for heavy vehicles will be converted into advanced automated test tracks.
Digital reforms are also in progress. The ‘Vahan’ application, used in other states for vehicle-related services, will be implemented in Telangana by the end of August.
Pollution testing centres will be integrated into a centralised IT-based monitoring system for emissions.
Additionally, Telangana’s vehicle registration code has been officially changed from ‘TS’ to ‘TG’ effective March 15, 2024. By June 30, 2025, around 13.05 lakh vehicles had already been updated to the new ‘TG’ code.
