Hyderabad: Congress MLC and actor Vijayashanti accused the Union government of deliberately stalling approval for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project to prevent credit from going to the state’s Congress administration.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Vijayashanti alleged that the Centre was intentionally delaying clearance for the project due to political considerations. She said the approval was being withheld to block positive attention for the Congress-led government in Telangana.
Vijayashanti said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had consistently raised the issue with the Prime Minister and central ministers during visits to Delhi, explaining the importance of the project. Despite repeated submissions, she said, there had been no favourable response from the Centre.
Calling it a setback to Hyderabad’s development, she said the BJP leaders within Greater Hyderabad needed to acknowledge their responsibility. She pointed out that the BJP holds 42 corporator positions in the GHMC, making it the second largest party in the corporation, and urged them to take initiative in securing central approvals for the project.
Vijayashanti specifically called on BJP MPs and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy to actively push for clearances, saying they must work collectively to persuade central ministries to grant immediate sanction. She said the BJP now had a chance to prove its sincerity regarding the city’s infrastructure needs.
