Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will formally launch the statewide distribution of new ration cards on July 14 at Tirumalagiri in Tungaturthi constituency, according to Food and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka is expected to join the event.
Uttam Kumar Reddy, who chaired a review meeting at the Nalgonda Collectorate along with Ministers Komatireddy Venkatareddy and A Laxman Kumar, instructed district collectors to complete verification of all eligible applicants by July 13 to avoid leaving out deserving families. He stressed that the selection process must remain transparent and free from corruption.
He told officials the government aimed to ensure every eligible beneficiary received a ration card without discrimination. Uttam Kumar Reddy said review meetings would be conducted twice monthly for tighter oversight.
Outlining details, the Minister noted that the state’s free fine rice scheme supplies 6 kg of rice per person per month to about 3.10 crore people, covering nearly 84% of the population, with an annual spending of around ₹13,000 crore. For June to August, three months’ worth of rations were provided at once 18 kg per person, 105 kg per Antyodaya family, and 30 kg per Annapurna family to guarantee uninterrupted supplies.
He accused the previous BRS administration of ignoring ration card enrolment since 2014, adding just about 49,000 new cards mostly during bypolls while lakhs of applications were pending. He described the Congress initiative as mission-focused and inclusive.
On irrigation projects, Uttam Kumar Reddy said works in the former Nalgonda district would be expedited. He pressed for coordination among public representatives to resolve land and forest clearance hurdles. He added that the Srisailam Left Bank Canal works would restart with help from Indian Army engineers conducting electro-magnetic LIDAR surveys for technical clearance.
He mentioned that several major projects Dindi, HLC lining, Nellikal Lift Irrigation, Pillayipalli Canal, Dharmareddy Canal would be pushed forward without delay.
Komatireddy Venkatareddy told the meeting that ₹45 crore had been cleared for the Sangem Bridge and new double-lane roads under the HAM model. Minister A Laxman Kumar assured support for welfare initiatives across the district.
MLAs, MLCs, MPs, and senior officials from multiple departments were present, along with collectors from Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri. Legislators flagged issues related to repairs of irrigation canals, land acquisition, resettlement funding, and restarting social welfare applications.
Uttam Kumar Reddy closed the review meeting stressing the government’s commitment to prioritise the poor, safeguard food security, and clear long-pending infrastructure projects.
