The Supreme Court postponed the hearing on Telangana MLA disqualification petitions to March 4 due to the absence of Assembly Secretary’s counsel.
DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred the hearing on disqualification petitions concerning Telangana MLAs who defected from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to the Congress. The session, initially scheduled for today, was postponed to March 4 due to the absence of Assembly Secretary’s counsel, Mukul Rohatgi.
The petitions were filed by BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao, Padi Kaushik Reddy, and Vivekananda, urging the court to direct the Speaker to take action against Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, M. Sanjay Kumar, Kale Yadayya, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, Prakash Goud, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, Arikepudi Gandhi, Danam Nagender, Tellam Venkata Rao, and Kadiyam Srihari, who shifted allegiance to the Congress.
In earlier proceedings, the Supreme Court had questioned the Speaker’s counsel on the timeline for deciding the disqualification pleas, expressing dissatisfaction over the ten-month delay. The court warned that it might intervene if a decision is not reached soon.
The next hearing is now set for March 4, where the court expects representation from all parties to expedite the matter.
