Delhi, January 7: A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck early Tuesday morning, with tremors felt in Delhi-NCR, Bihar, and West Bengal. The National Center for Seismology reported that the earthquake occurred at 6:35 AM, with its epicenter located in Tibet’s Shigatse region, approximately 10 kilometers below the Earth’s surface.
According to China’s state media, nine fatalities have been confirmed in the affected areas of China. However, no further details on casualties or damages were provided.
The impact of the earthquake extended to Nepal and Bhutan, as well as the Indian states of Sikkim and Uttarakhand. Despite the widespread tremors, no reports of casualties or property damage have emerged from India so far.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as aftershocks remain a possibility in the region.
